Choosing a new garage door isn’t just about finding a style you like. The construction of the door, insulation, durability, price, and even the amount of sunlight your garage receives can all affect which door makes the most sense for your home.
At Heavenly Garage Doors, we install a variety of garage doors throughout Middle Tennessee. While there isn’t one door that’s right for every homeowner, we tend to recommend different options depending on what the customer actually needs.
If you’re comparing Amarr, ProDoor, and Haas garage doors, here’s what you should know before making your decision.

For homeowners looking for a well-insulated garage door, we particularly like the Haas 600 Series. It is one of the doors we sell most often because it offers an excellent balance of insulation, construction quality, appearance, and price.
When a homeowner wants an insulated garage door or a more premium appearance, Haas is typically our first recommendation.
One of the biggest differences is how the door is constructed.
Many basic insulated garage doors use polystyrene insulation, which is similar in concept to rigid packing or shipping foam. However, a polyurethane-insulated door, like Haas doors, uses foam that expands inside the door sections.
That polyurethane construction does more than improve insulation. It creates a much more rigid door section.
The result is a garage door that feels solid, provides excellent insulation, and can hold up extremely well over time.
Haas also offers a wide range of colors, wood-grain finishes, and design options, making it particularly attractive for homeowners who want their garage door to become part of the home’s overall appearance rather than simply fill the opening.
For many Middle Tennessee homeowners, we recommend the Haas 600 Series.
It offers an R-value of 13.45, along with polyurethane-insulated construction. Tim Carnes, the owner of Heavenly Garage Doors, considers it the best overall value among the doors Heavenly regularly sells because customers can get a highly insulated, rigid door without jumping into much more expensive product lines.
That’s especially important because insulation upgrades eventually reach a point of diminishing returns.
You can spend considerably more money on a higher-rated garage door, but the improvement in insulation may be relatively small. For most homes in Tennessee, the 600 Series provides the level of performance homeowners actually need without paying significantly more for marginal improvements.
There is one situation where we may recommend stepping above the Haas 600 Series: a garage door that receives direct sunlight for most of the day.
If your garage faces east or west and receives strong sunlight for only part of the day, the additional expense of moving to a substantially higher-insulated door may not provide much benefit.
But if the door receives direct sunlight for roughly three-quarters of the day, upgrading to a higher R-value door can make more sense.
That’s the kind of detail that’s easy to overlook when you’re simply comparing specifications online.
Not every homeowner needs a premium polyurethane-insulated door.
If you’re primarily concerned about keeping the initial cost down and want a dependable standard garage door, Amarr can be a good choice.
We commonly consider Amarr for customers looking for:
Amarr is a well-established garage door manufacturer, and its doors can be perfectly appropriate for many homes.
Where the equation changes is when you’re comparing more heavily insulated models. In our experience, once a customer wants a highly insulated garage door, Haas can provide substantially more value for the money.
ProDoor can also be worth considering depending on the particular door, budget, style, and availability.
However, rather than treating all three manufacturers as interchangeable alternatives, we think it’s more useful to start with what you need the garage door to accomplish.
For many of our customers, the decision becomes relatively straightforward:
If keeping the price down is the priority, we can look at economical options such as Amarr. If insulation, longevity, rigidity, and premium appearance matter more, Haas becomes particularly compelling.

It can, but how much it matters depends heavily on how you use your garage.
We particularly recommend considering a polyurethane-insulated garage door if:
For these situations, the garage door becomes part of the home’s thermal envelope rather than simply an exterior door.
That’s one reason we frequently recommend the Haas 600 Series. It provides a high level of insulation without requiring homeowners to pay for performance they may not actually need in Tennessee.
Insulation can also affect the structural characteristics of the garage door.
According to Tim’s experience installing and servicing these doors, the polyurethane construction used in the Haas doors makes the panels exceptionally rigid and contributes to their longevity.
With reasonable upkeep, he generally thinks of a typical Amarr door as roughly a respectable 20-year door, while a Haas polyurethane door can potentially remain in service for 30 years or more. Those aren’t guarantees, of course. Actual lifespan depends on usage, maintenance, environment, damage, and other factors.
The important point is that the decision isn’t simply about today’s purchase price.
A higher-quality door may provide better insulation, remain structurally sound longer, and give you more years of service.
For most homeowners, we’d narrow the decision down based on a few questions.
Are you primarily looking for the lowest practical upfront cost?
A standard Amarr door may make the most sense.
Do you want a highly insulated garage door?
We would strongly consider Haas, particularly the 600 Series.
Do you have living space above your garage or use the garage as a gym, workshop, or conditioned space?
The added insulation and rigidity of a polyurethane Haas door become much more valuable.
Is appearance a major consideration?
Haas offers excellent design options, including premium colors and wood-grain looks.
Does your garage door receive direct sunlight for most of the day?
We may recommend going beyond the Haas 600 Series to a higher-insulated option.
Ultimately, specifications only tell part of the story. The right garage door depends on your house, how you use your garage, your budget, and what you expect from the door over the next 20 to 30 years.
You don’t have to figure out R-values, polyurethane versus polystyrene, door series, and construction methods on your own.
